Coasting The Cotswolds draws inspiration from both the British coast and countryside. My designs are contemporary and a little quirky – I aim to create something you love to look at, you can use every day, and which brings a bit of a smile. My fabrics are carefully selected and combined to give just the right look to add some simple charm to your home.
I am based in the beautiful Cotswold countryside, but enjoy travelling to Devon and Cornwall, where I have discovered many artists from whom I draw inspiration.
I am a busy Mum to four children which can be all-consuming. During the school day, I tutor geography and environmental management, but when not tutoring, I love the opportunity to get creative with my beautiful fabrics and a head full of ideas.
My work is available to buy through Etsy and Folksy plus Panorama gallery in Topsham, Devon. I also do occasional art and craft fayres locally to me. My many visits to Cornwall and Devon during my childhood and later as a parent with my own children have inspired my lobster and fish designs. Fowey, Padstow, St Ives and a short spell living in the pretty estuary town of Topsham – all wonderful places and full of lovely galleries to explore inspirational arts and crafts with a coastal theme. I’ve enjoyed shopping for pieces to take home to add a coastal feel to my home – over time this inspired me to come up with ideas of my own. Although I live in the heart of the countryside, almost as far from the coast as you can get in England, my home has elements of the coast in each room, so it doesn't feel so very far away.
My love of designing and appliqué is inspired by Poppy Treffry and Cat Rowe, whose work I admire. They have inspired me to learn this technique and get creative with designs of my own.
This sheep was my first design, simple but full of so much character, with that dead pan uninterested look which only a sheep can give you as you walk past.
Visiting the Cotswold Farm Park many times with my children when they were young and seeing the huge Gloucester Old Spot pigs always made me smile. It’s amazing how they can see past those huge ears! The idea of pigs wearing wellies came from the 13-year old girl I tutor, an enthusiastic admirer of everything outdoors, with a vivacious sense of humour.
Keeping chickens is popular in the small Cotswold village of Churchill where I live - they make characterful pets and who wouldn’t enjoy fresh eggs for breakfast!
It's a rare but thrilling treat to spot a hare dashing across the fields when out walking. They are beautiful and graceful creatures. The alertness in their eyes and ears when they stop to listen is captivating.
I’m a firm believer that everyday items ought to be fun to use and beautiful to look at. With my cushions I aim to add splashes of colour and character to your home and hopefully make you smile.
We took delivery of our Shepherd's Hut last October. It is a traditional Cotswold design, and provides a haven away from the busy life. It has also become the de facto gallery. In order to get it into position we needed to shuffle it across the lawn and down to it's final location. This is a video of the process!
